Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is the result of a sensitive and reactive temperament met with an invalidating environment during crucial periods of early childhood development.  When this combination occurs, a client suffers from the belief that their thoughts and emotions are invalid and incorrect.  That’s why validation is a crucial component of treatment and a must to keep the client engaged and working for the long haul.  Marsha Linehan, PhD, founder of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, says it’s “impossible to overestimate the importance of validation” in recovery from BPD.  Learn about the principles of validation and how to put them into action in this illuminating presentation.

Cassandra Katz, LCSW CACIII, has distinguished herself as an expert in the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and addictions.  She has a private practice in Boulder and has been a psychotherapist for over 20 years.  She has treated hundreds of clients with this difficult combination of problems.  You can reach her at
