Assessing and Referring to the Mental Health Continuum of Care

Presented By: Kate Ziesenheim, Community Liaison, Highlands Behavioral Health System

Although most professionals in mental health have worked in various settings, it is hard to understand all of the different levels of care. A broad overview will be given as well as how to assess for the appropriate level of care and how to make a referral. Specific resources in the community will be given. Involuntary holds for mental health hospitalization as well as general information about the new crisis stabilization units and walk-in centers will also be covered.

Kate has held numerous roles in the mental health and addiction field for the past ten years including program manager, crisis intervention specialist, intake coordinator, homeless outreach coordinator, case manager, and supportive counselor. She is currently a hospital liaison for an acute psychiatric hospital, helping to connect healthcare professionals with the hospital and provide education to the community. She is pursuing a Physician’s Assistant certification to where she will specialize in mental health and addiction treatment.

The Denver CAP Network is dedicated to "Integrity, Diversity and Belonging". Our monthly meetings are hosted under the leadership of CAP members Karin Dremel and Dr Carol Ann Watson.

We at CAP hope you will be able to attend this meeting to lunch, learn and network. There is no charge for attendance. You may bring your lunch or purchase something at Natural Grocers. (Free parking is available). The meeting is held in the kitchen meeting room located in the southeast corner of the market.

CAP is building a Resource Data Base to enable us to fill meeting/speaking dates well in advance.  This will ensure continuity of monthly meetings and help you save the dates.  Please share with us information about interesting speakers you see or meet elsewhere...or how about yourself?  Send suggestions for continuing education speakers to
